FrenchLink offers the following services:
Technical Translation

The time has long gone when it was assumed that translation could be performed adequately by a bilingual with a dictionary. This dynamic, rapidly developing profession now calls for technically well-informed and linguistically talented people who possess a clear understanding of the issues involved in cross-cultural transcoding and are able to utilise the latest computer-based tools and methodologies.

At FrenchLink, we offer technical translations with emphasis on excellent quality, terminological accuracy, and consistency. All translators are experienced professionals and native speakers. All written translations are edited and proofread.

We translate, proofread and/or edit any written material in French : user manuals, specification sheets, company profiles, sales catalogs, news releases, conference presentations, documentation, CD-ROM and general information sheets are just few of the items we can produce for you.

We maintain client-specific terminology glossaries and formatting guidelines and we leverage your translation memory materials as well as the translation memories we build for consistent translations over time. We keep accurate track of any of your feedback or comments.

The longer we work with you, the better we respond to your specific needs.

We work in the following formats:
Word - Power Point - HTML

Web Site Localization

The days of English-only web sites are no more! With over 200 million people worldwide accessing the Internet in a language other than English, the opportunities to expand your market reach are virtually limitless. All you need is the technology to do it!

Translating your content in the languages of your customers is a first step toward global success. However, we never simply translate word for word. Your content is linguistically evaluated and reviewed. We make sure that the translated content contains culturally acceptable terms and presents your company in a professional manner.

FrenchLink takes your existing site and very carefully and precisely translate every piece of text, every graphic, every form, and every other component of your site into French. All translation is performed by a real human, not a machine or software, to make sure that the localized content is as natural in the new language as possible.

We make sure the final page layout is correct. We maintain your web site as you update your source pages.

Software Localization

The localization of a product means the full adaptation of the product for use in a different language. This adaptation is more than a simple conversion of text from one language to another. Apart from the translation itself, the localization includes adjustment of the product contents and appearance to the socio-cultural context and functional needs of the target audience - while maintaining the product's unique character, its code integrity and the message it conveys.

FrenchLink can localize the four major components of a software product: the user interface (resource files), the help contents (including HTML-written help files), the technical documentation and the marketing documentation of the product.

We also offer full service for Help compiling with RoboHelp.

And just because the amount of work can be large even for a short piece of code, FrenchLink also offers workflow management, terminology management, file management and translation memory leveraging.

Proofreading, Revision and Editing

FrenchLink offers various services in proofreading and revision editing customized to your specific needs.

They range from a simple proofreading of the French material to entering revisions into translated documents, tracking changes made in parallel in both languages.

We will keep accurate track of your translation orders. If your new order includes previously translated text, we will use what has already been translated and thus will reduce your costs significantly.

Terminology Management

FrenchLink will prepare and update glossaries for your on-going projects. We will use these glossaries internally to ensure terminological consistency.

We can also provide you with customized versions. Any feedback received from you regarding a particular way of translating certain terms will be immediately incorporated into these glossaries and used for future translations.

Frenchlink uses Trados Multiterm, the industry-standard terminology management tool in conjunction with Workbench, the state-of-the art translation memory tool.

If you give us a comprehensive glossary at the beginning of a project, there is no way we can miss any of your recommanded terms when we create your translated text.

Translation glossaries and translation memories developed by FrenchLink can be purchased and become your sole property for use by in-house linguists and overseas offices.

Style Guide Development

Translation style guides and conventions for source and target languages are a key to ensuring translation consistency. If such translation guidelines do not exist, we can assist you in developing and maintaining these documents.

A translation style guide is neither a dictionary nor a grammar. It is a reference guide in which standards for regulatory compliant and culturally appropriate translations are set.

The purpose of the style guide is to harmonize the work of the translation team and to assure consistency from document to document.

Translation Memory Leveraging

FrenchLink uses Trados, the industry-standard translation memory and terminology management tool.

When used properly, translation-memory tools are always very effective in the translation of high-volume documentation. Translation memories aid in accomplishing three objectives:
  • Substantial improvement in translation consistency
  • Sizable reduction in turnaround time
  • Significant reduction in translation cost
FrenchLink provides comprehensive support for the following Trados components: Workbench(link) to merge any translation memory format materials you may have built, and WinAlign(link) to recycle legacy translations.

Help Compiling

FrenchLink offers full-service for your Win Help and HTML Help documentation.

After the Help content is carefully translated and edited in French, we compile it in RoboHelp to ensure that it has the same structure as the original English help.

The index and table of contents will appear in French and the Help will be ready to run!
